// translate before or after the apostille?

The order depends which way it's going.

An apostille authenticates the original document, not the translation. Here's the rule in three lines — the full explainer is on its own guide page.

[01]

Inbound to USCIS — just translate

A foreign document filed with USCIS usually needs only a certified English translation, with the translator's certification. An apostille is generally not required for USCIS itself.

[02]

Outbound abroad — apostille first

The apostille authenticates the original, not the translation. For documents going abroad, apostille the original first, then we translate the document and the apostille together.

[03]

We translate; siblings apostille

We capture the certified translation. Need the apostille itself? We hand off to the apostille service so the original gets authenticated and your package is complete.
